NTRA Selection Policy

NTRA Selection Policy

This policy outlines the guidelines that will be in place for the selection at any tournament where players are being selected for representation at a higher level.

It is strongly suggested that this policy is used for selection of representative teams as it will ensure the selection process is consistent at all levels and its not denigrated in any way.

This selection policy is to achieve credibility, accountability and above all, an accepted formula. This policy therefore must be maintained and refined to ensure this standard remains.

1. Selection into a Regional / State / National senior or junior team is at a NTRA Tournament.

2. All players vying for representative selection must be Australian citizens or an official permanent resident.

3. Consideration maybe given to players who suffer an injury or illness or have extenuating circumstances during or prior to any regional / state / national tournament. Notification must be in writing prior to the end of the tournament and presented to the Director of Selectors via team Management.

4. State / National squads will be named following the state / national tournament.

5. State / National squads will be based on the best-performed players according to the selection criteria.

6. Number of players selected for each division shall be no less than 12 and no greater than 14. Two players maybe selected as emergency players.

7. Selection for mixed / aged divisions shall be selected from the appropriate division.

8. Rating sheets are to be used as a tool in providing the selectors with a guide to the selection of players.

9. If under any circumstances , a player has been replaced due to direction of NTRA , then the selectors for that division are requested to reconvene to provide a replacement player. The reason for the rejection of the player should be notified to the player in writing.

10. Where regional / state / national squads are being selected the following process applies:

  1. Available players viewed by qualified selectors
  2. Selectors complete player rating sheets
  3. At the conclusion of the tournament the selectors convenes to

Select final squads.

11. Selectors will decide player selection through the process of informed discussion. Discussion will take into consideration those performance factors relating to attack, defence and team skills and coach’s team requirements.

PLAYER CONDUCT

Behaviour both on and off the field will be taken into consideration when determining selection of squads.

On field behaviour should be taken into consideration when rating players. Unacceptable behaviour, both on and off the field, will be taken into consideration when assessing player performances. This includes such things as:

  1. Sledging
  2. Phantom Touches
  3. Swearing
  4. Misconduct

If a player is dismissed from the field for a period of time or sent off during a game, they may not be considered appropriate representative players.
